Skin Hydration Starts From Within!

There’s nothing quite like catching a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and seeing just how beautifully healthy and glowing your skin looks… and there’s nothing better than feeling confident enough in your own skin to step out in little to no makeup! All your hard work has been paying off!

Skincare itself is quite a nuanced affair, however, and there are lots of factors – both internal and external – that can have an impact on the quality and appearance of your skin.

Maintaining a regular routine with products that features key ingredients like hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid and so on is a great first line of defence to adopt, but it’s also important to consider other priority aspects of skincare if you really want to drill down and make your skin as resilient as possible.

Hydration is absolutely key when it comes to radiant youthful-looking skin and, while you can certainly find hydrating ingredients in products (hyaluronic acid, we’re looking at you!), it’s also important not to neglect other sources either, such as your diet.

Of course, one of the best ways to keep dehydration at bay is to make sure you’re getting enough water each day. While there isn’t a lot of evidence out there that suggests drinking water will help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, staying hydrated is still essential for your overall health – so make sure you’ve got your water bottle to hand at all times!

Drinking water aside, what you eat can also help improve your hydration levels and really give your skin a big boost, keeping it plump and perky, with minimised wrinkles and crinkles here and there.

Increasing your intake of water-rich food can help your skin, as you want water to stay in the body for as long as possible to enrich your tissues, muscles and cells, rather than simply passing through quickly.

A recent study from the University of Aberdeen suggested that eating some types of fruit and vegetables may potentially be twice as hydrating as a glass of water… so now’s the time to stock the cupboards with watermelon and celery, both of which have been cited as being particularly good for hydration.

But that’s not all you can put in the fridge! Make sure you’ve got plenty of cucumber, tomatoes, apples, lettuce and watercress as well, since they’re all rich in water and will help you nourish your body and give it what it needs.

Also remember that it’s not just water that you’re enjoying when you start feasting on more fruit and veggies… they’re also rich in all sorts of other minerals and nutrients that we need to function and which can really help our skin.

So if you have been struggling with skincare of late and can’t quite put your finger on why, taking a little look at what’s on your plate and making some strategic swaps could make a big difference. It’s certainly worth a try, at any rate!
